Treating shingles: The main treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) is the anti-herpes drug valacyclovir or acyclovir by mouth, but only effective if started when outbreak is still active, i.e. new blisters/sores still appearing. Anti-herpes creams don't work at all. The two pain meds you've bbeen given might help but probably not much. (You don't need both of them.) See doctor if you can; pharmacy alone won't help.
