Postherpetic...: Neuralgia. Complication of having shingles. There is no cure, but pain can be controlled with topical capsaicin cream. If this doesn't help, there are other let options which requires a prescriptions. Examples include Lyrica, (pregabalin) neurontin, or class of antidepressant known as TCA. Wish you well.

Herpetic Neuralgia: Capsaicin cream over the counter may be of some use. It does not work immediately, it takes some time. The effects may not help you long term. The cream should help if you give it time. There are also some doctor prescribed medications including topical lidocaine, lidocaine patches, amitriptyline, neurontin or lyrica (pregabalin) that may be of benefit.

Shingles: Unfortunately after suffering from a shingles outbreak you could have constant tenderness burning or pain in that region for a long time :( it's called post heretic neuralgia ( PHN) best approach to managing the pain is either lyrica (pregabalin) or a similar product called neurontin. These are prescription medications and you need to see your doctor to discuss this further. :)

Post herpetic: neuralgia. See your doctor and discuss with him the options for treatment such as gabapentin or lyrica (pregabalin).
