A member asked:

How long does it take to correct a potassium deficiency? i guess it depends on the severity? i have no kidney disease but had diarrhea for over a week and not much of appetite during it. diarrhea stopped. im going to doctor next week. thanks

A few days: In your case, the diarrhea is resolving, so depleting potassium can be done in a couple of days, unless the malabsorption and stool loss have gone in for over a week. In your case bananas and liquid or solid potassium oral supplements are best to achieve this, use your doctor to guide you on the amounts

In a few hours: Hypokalemia from diarrhea would be correctable in a few hours with bananas and orange juice. Fruit juice will also help with hydration.
