On christmas day i noticed a lump by my armpit that is sore. it's like a bruise/sore muscle kind of pain. the lump is smaller than the tip of my finger. i've tried calling my family doctor but he may be on leave. should i get it checked out asap?

Fever?: If the area increasing size, pain or is associated with fever, please see a physician right away. Otherwise, use topical antibiotic cream,ice pack and Ibuprofen and see a physician within 48 hours. You may have an infected lymph node.
