Yes: Methionine is an essential amino acid but is metabolized to homocysteine which increases risk of heart disease, stroke etc. B12 and folate are co-factors in breaking down homocysteine.Nearly half of people have difficulty converting folic acid and other B12's to the active methylated forms so they esp. benefit from taking those forms.
