Doctor can examine: Skin pain can be from one of several possible causes. A doctor's exam is needed (primary care doctor or dermatologist). A person with shingles can have burning pain of the skin where the rash breaks out. Sometimes nerve irritation (anywhere along the nerve from the spine to the skin surface) can cause pain sensations in the lower back, thigh, or elsewhere. An in-person or video exam is helpful.
