A member asked:

Hi i was hit with a paper airplane yesterday and my glasses werent sitting right to block it and it poked me in the eye. it is now swollen and has formed into a bump. can this turn into a stye? is this serious that i need it to be looked at?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on location: A stye can form on the eyelid, due to blocked gland ducts such as oil gland ducts, or perhaps due to trauma to hair or lash follicles. Styes usually just appear without reason. Haven't seen a stye result from a paper airplane, but it's probably possible to happen because many things are possible (even if rare) in life. A stye does not form on the eyeball itself.
