Need an exam to tell: Treatment for a jammed finger may include: finger rest, cold packs, and elevating that hand up to the chest. Ibuprofen for 3 days helps reduce swelling and pain. One can "buddy splint" by taping the injured finger to the finger next to it for a few days. If the pain is moderately severe or worse, the finger crooked, or range of motion significantly decreased, one's doctor might suspect a fracture.
