Occasional : bleeding is considered normal, if it gets worse with flow or pain, let your doctor know. Sometimes, the uterine lining, which is kept thin intentionally, gets to thin, or benign uterine polyps can form causing nuisance bleeding. Motrin is ok for cramps, for most people.

Mirena (levonorgestrel) inserted 12 days ago.It has been light brown discharge for a week,but bright red blood in the discharge today with cramps. Day 16 since period.
Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD inserted 10/17/14. Check-up 11/5. Severe cramps once/day, 4-6 hours each. Vaginal bloody discharge and blood in urine. Both began 10/17/14.
Had short period (mainly old blood). Immediately after I've had brown discharge for 1.5 weeks with cramping. I do have mirana IUD for a year.
