Depends on doctor: It all depends on what one's doctors (the Mom's and the baby's doctors) decide. Chicken pox viruses are on the skin and in the oral secretions (sneezing, coughing, etc...). The virus is felt not to transmit via the milk itself. A 4-month old baby usually recovers fine from catching chicken pox, unless a really unlucky baby. Waiting until all the chicken pox lesions have scabbed over is the safest.

All lessons dry: If all the lesions are dry and crusted over and you are otherwise well, you can continue to nurse, after checking with your pediatrician. The baby has a developing immune system and varicella can be quite serious in this age group.
