What is iud?

Contraceptive: Iud stands for "intrauterine device." it is one of the oldest forms of contraception. The modern iud is highly effective, safe, long-acting, private, and is a rapidly reversible method of contraception with few side effects. Several factors have limited its widespread use in the U.S., such as a history of negative publicity, lack of clinician training, misperceptions, and fear of litigation.

Intrauterine device: An iud is a device inserted through the cervix for reliable and reversible birth control. Paraguard is a copper based device good for 10 years and had no hormones. Mirena (levonorgestrel) is a Progesterone containing iud which is good for 5 years and is also useful for both birth control and decreasing bleeding. Both have web sites for your review.

Best birth control: The IUD, whether it's hormonal or copper, is one of the safest and most effective methods of birth control that you can use. It's long-lasting, reversible, and b/c it's made to work inside the uterus, it doesn't cause systemic side effects. You can have it placed and have your doctor remove it anytime you want to get pregnant. Highly recommended for pregnancy prevention.
