Yes IUD is safe: It is inserted in the doctors' office, in the vaginal through the cervix into the inside of the uterus and pregnacny is prevented nearly 100%, Up to 5 years. Advantage is a one time procedure. The disadvantages: 1) increase bleeding and cramping,2) risk of infection, 3) copper allergy if the copper containing device is used.4) other device releases hormone and may have side effects from that.
