Is taking baking soda with water safe to treat acid reflux? are there any other side effects of taking baking soda like this?

Generally safe: This is highly effective (and comes with a belch that some people find satisfying). But relief and protection of esophagus is brief. It's a large sodium load (equal to the same amount of table salt), a serious problem in people with high blood pressure or certain heart, liver, or kidney problems. Better to use antacid tablets or liquids, which are highly effective and easily available worldwide.
