A member asked:

Hello. my daughter is 2 years and 7 months old and weighs 16kg. at approximately 18:00 tonight she accidentally swallowed one ativan sl 1mg tablet. will she be okay? can we safely put her to bed or must we take her for medical care?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Should call her Dr.: Calling one's pediatrician or local Poison Control center should solve the issue. This usually boils down to what a parent knows vs. what she doesn't know (a toddler's words are not reliable). If the parent knows the toddler really only took 1mg of Ativan and no other pills, things are probably ok (online sites say the sedating dose is 0.8-1.6 mg for a 16kg child). Watch for excessive sleepiness.
