A member asked:

Does phlegm come out of throat only or nose too?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, it all connects: The oropharynx is the portion of one's throat that is visible when one opens his mouth widely. The nasopharynx is the part of the throat above what is visible, and is above the soft palate, so one cannot see the nasopharynx when looking into the mouth. A nice diagram is at: https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/nasopharynx
