A member asked:

Can your throat be just red in the back bad with the flu or can i have white spots at the side along with redness? i have the flu currently

A doctor has provided 1 answer

With, without spots: New throat whitish spots can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), the flu (Tamiflu may be used), other viruses, yeast (such as Candida), or from causes such as allergies, irritants, or acid reflux. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat is irritating, worrisome, or doesn't resolve quickly. Probably strep throat or non-flu viruses are the more likely causes of spots.
