My cardiologist increased my lipitor to 40 mg daily. i sill have quite a few tablets of lipitor 20 mg. can i take two 20 mg tablets of lipitor till i finish them?

Yes: Great idea! It is exactly the same (20+20 = 40) and avoids waste of pills you have.

Sounds fine: Two of the Lipitor 20 mg tablets equals one of the 40 mg. The same goes for Lipitor brand name or its generic tablet.
