See below: You're not going to like what i'm about to tell you: don't believe everything dr. Oz says! he purposely takes alternative views to keep his show interesting. Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a highly effective drug demonstrated in world wide double blind prospective studies in both men and women. It's the mainstay of therapy for people with or at risk for heart disease. The above applies to Simvastatin too!

Completely safe: The medication is extremely safe, and appropriate, for both men and women. It is extremely beneficial for people at high risk for heart attacks or strokes. For people at low risk, it is less beneficial (but still lowers the risk of heart attack or stroke).
