I'm allergic to nickel. is using a product with copper unsafe for me? i'd like to try a copper tongue scraper, for instance, but fear an allergy.

Unsafe: Besides the fact that that there might be cross reactivity between nickel and copper, copper products may contain nickel traces and it does not sound to be worth it playing Russian Roulette with such a device. Ask also for your dentist or PCP opinion regarding a tongue scraper.
