A member asked:

Is it safe to drink alcohol sensibly & only lightly - moderately with early stage fibrosis if the underlying cause is removed? i have heard different opinions on this! thanks.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Liver fibrosis?: A person who already has liver damage, regardless of the cause of the liver damage, should stay away from ethanol (alcoholic beverages) because alcohol is toxic to living tissues, damages the liver, and is not required for normal human life. That means there is no law, rule, or requirement that a person must drink alcoholic beverages... thus one can just stay away from the stuff.
