A member asked:

Good day, i would like to know if a pap smear can indicate the presence of herpes and if so is it possible that it can occur on the cervix?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pap smear: Herpes virus could be tested during a pap smear with a PCR but since it is present only intermittently, it will only be noticed looking at one point in time and only if the sample is great enough from the cervix, no other affected areas are tested; therefore, wouldn't be accurate. While with an IgG test is meant for diagnosing the disease even if there are no visible symptoms at the moment.
