What does missing component of cervix mean in pap smear result?

Endocervical?: Ah i get it - missing endocervical component? It just means that the lab didn't see any endocervical cells, which is the 'second' component of a pap smear. It doesn't mean disease, it means you may wish to ask your doc if he/she wants to repeat the pap to get the endocervix.

Often endocervical: Sometimes a pap smear only collects cells from the outer lays of the cervix (squamous cells) and not the inner layers of the cervix, the endocervical canal, which collects glandular cells. Both are required for a pap to be adqeuate. Often your health care provider will have you return for an attempt to sample the glandular cells as well.
