Some thoughts...: If it is not constipation (collection of stool in the left lower abdomen) that goes away with bowel movements, then a primary care doctor can check to see what the problem might be. The doctor can check to see if there is a mass of some kind in the abdomen or pelvis, that is not stool. Even if the discomfort goes away with a bowel movement, but is a new symptom, the doctor may want to evaluate it.
