My daughter is only 8 weeks and breastfeeding but her stools have mucus and smell really bad. her tummy has also been really sore that she cries from the pain at times, is this normal?

If you have been exclusively breastfeeding, I would review your diet to be sure you haven't changed anything that could be causing this. If you gave her some formula, she could be reacting to that.Also, if you have traveled or if anyone else is ill, it could be infectious. Please be sure she is drinking enough to have plenty of wet diapers and if this continues, please have her seen by her doctor.

No, this does not sound normal. The usual nice thing about breast fed stools are that they have almost no odor. If they are smelling really bad as you state, then it's likely she has some type of food intolerance to something in your diet. I'd work with your pediatrician or a dietitian to try and pinpoint what the culprit is.Most often it is dairy in mom's diet, but could be anything...good luck!
