If the person takes zantac pill 2-3 times a week only on an as needed basis when hearburn/ irritation from the burning is felt and not everyday.is it reasonable to prevent barrets? or a daily prilosec is essential. zantac response is always instant.

Barretts: It is not necessary to take something to PREVENT Barretts, but if you have this diagnosis then you should take a proton pump inhibitor to prevent progression. Speak with your gastroenterologist specialist if you have one to specify what he or she would like you to be taking.
