Be Optimistic: In experienced hands this procedure is very successful and relatively low risk. Need to be realistic about fact that rehab and recovery may take 3-6 months and patient needs to actively participate to get the benefits of the surgery. Also want to look at nutritional support after surgery as protein needs high to enable healing. Get advice from hospital dietician.
