Somewhat common: Aortic valve surgery is the most common kind of valve surgery in the United States. For most surgical programs, the majority of heart surgery involves coronary artery bypass. Thus, aortic valve replacement probably represents approximately 5% of all heart surgery. The figure may be higher at some specialized valve surgical programs.
