Dr. Craig Carter answered

Specializes in Thoracic Surgery

Medical therapy: Treatment of symptomatic aortic stenosis is generally surgical. Today, interventional therapy includes transcatheter valve replacement, which may be a better tolerated procedure applicable to more patients, or balloon valvuloplasty, usually used in children or elderly patients. Medical therapy is always the first line therapy, and may be successful for a prolonged period prior to intervention.
