A member asked:

My 70 yr old mother has swelling on the whole face. he had a head injury recently but ct scan is clear, is complaining of vaginal discharge or infection & is on asthma inhaler since years. what could be the cause of recent swelling. bp, kideney ok?

Some basics: Facial swelling can be an allergic response or retained fluid for another reason. If the lymph flow in her head/neck are backed up by an obstruction (superior vena cava syndrome) it is a worrisome sign suggesting an abnormal growth blocking the flow. If you can't explain this as an allergy I would have her evaluated. Vaginal discharge & inhaler use is irrelevant. This needs immediate attention
