Absolutely not...: Low dose (10 to 25mg) weekly Methotrexate is probably the best, most effective first line medication for ra. However, if you drink alcohol (any) or have pre-existing liver disease, Methotrexate can be harmful.Your doctor will need to check your liver enzymes monthly for 3 months, then every 3 months while on Methotrexate to make sure your liver is okay. Do not take if pregnant--it can kill the baby.
