HRT ?'s: At 44, "pre-menopause" with sustained time between periods will result in extra ovarian estrogen production. Taking HRT plus extra estrogen from the ovaries will cause thickened endometrial lining with breakdown causing heavy bleeding. See your gyn , who may recommend oral bcp's to stop ovarian estrogen: low dose bcp's have very low estrogen and can replace need for HRT.
