A member asked:

Please advise, can gerd (acid reflux) be misdiagnosed with asthma? i was first told i have asthma, after few months of medication, i went back and now am diagnosed with acid reflux, can one condition lead to the other? how to handle both conditions?

Rarely overlap: GERD is a process almost everyone has the potential to develop based on dietary habits & other behaviors. Asthma is a condition heavily influenced by heredity & affects a subset of the population. You can have both conditions. GERD rarely could trigger an asthma attack. I saw it in 1 patient in 4 decades.
