Post cast Edema ?: Swelling after the cast is removed is quite common. It is known as post cast edema. Swelling is actually due to the cast's long term effect on the lymphatic vessels. Some edema might also be due to the actual damage to the soft tissue at the ankle level. Treatment with elevation, compression stockings and physical therapy would help stem the tide.
