Oral herpes: Abreva (docosanol) is not effective for herpes. It's good your cold sore cleared up so quickly, but it probably wasn't becasue of the Abreva. For effective treatment, ask your doctor for a prescription for valacyclovir. A single dose (2 grams) immediately after onset is the most effective treatment. But saliva as lube probably is OK. More direct contact usually is needed to transmit the virus.
