Treating oral herpes: Docosanol (Abreva) is not effective in speeding healing of oral herpes (cold sore). The only truly effective treatment is valacyclovir (Valtrex) and related drugs. The treatment of choice is a single large dose (2 grams) of valayclovir by mouth as soon as a developing sore is noticed. With other meds or no treatment, typical outbreaks last 10-15 days, so yours should start improving soon.

I cant tell if I have a cold sore in the corner of my lip. It doesnt hurt and you can barely see anything. There MAY be one blister but I cant tell if it just may be chapped. Im not sure if Im overthinking. I put Abreva on just in case?
