A member asked:

Dr wants to add wellbutrin to my 12.5mg zoloft to offset the sedating effects of zoloft (bc we want to increase zoloft for my anxiety). how safe is this? seizures, increased anxiety and serotonin syndrome i read. how common are these side effects?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not common: It is not uncommon to combine meds such as zoloft and wellbutrin. They work different ways s Zoloft increases serotonin, and wellbutrin results in increased norepinepherine and dopamine . IF one only gets a partial response on zoloft sometimes adding wellbutrin improves the response . Taking over 450mg of wellbutrin can result in seizures, serotonin syndrome unlikely
