Can the removal of the adrenal glands lead to death?

Please explain: If there's no functioning adrenal cortex, then life depends on cortisol being replaced for the rest of your life. I'm going to assume you're not using healthtap for homework; if this is a situation that applies to you (cancer surgery? Inoperable pituitary adenoma?), have a frank talk with your physician. Good luck.

No: You don't die with removal of the adrenal glands but the hormones it produces are essential for life, so you will need to take hormone replacement for life. You should have a really good reason why the adrenal should be removed.

Yes: Removal of the adrenal glands, untreated, would lead to death. Adrenal hormone replacement would prevent this.
