I've heard of getting parasites walking outside on contaminated soil, but what are the chances of getting it while walking barefoot in your own home? sometimes i wear shoes in the kitchen but other times i go barefoot. am i putting myself at risk?

No: If the home were dirty or had a dirt floor. The larvae from hookworms are what infect people and they need to be in dirt.
