Doctor can check: A sore throat can be evaluated by a primary care doctor or an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor to see what the cause might be. Sometimes it is a strep throat bacterial infection (antibiotics would be needed to treat strep). Other possibilities include a tonsillar abscess, a viral infection, a throat ulcer, ear infection, etc... The doctor may look at the ear and the throat to figure out what is going on.
