A member asked:

I took some opiates and got sleepy on them. to counter this, i went running. i felt the run was much easier. is this dangerous to the heart? i do realize the pain alleviation is dangerous in itself.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dangerous: Opiates are dangerous on many levels. They are addictive. Many of them are combined with acetaminophen which can be damaging to the liver. They cause brain dysfunction and fatigue. I strongly encourage you not to take opiates for easier running. Appropriate uses for opiates are to treat cancer pain, to treat fractures or bone pain and after surgery. Other uses should be avoided.
