Can a hospital/emergency department discharge you home if you are still in pain?

Er discharge: Many patients are discharged from the er while still having pain, from an injury for example. However their overall condition and vital signs must be stable and the patient should not be at high risk for falling and, in my opinion, not objecting to disharge. A prescription for a pain reliever is often supplied by the emergency room physician with instructions for appropriate follow-up care.
