Metoprolol: has NO direct effect on your blood sugar. It can, however, "mask" the symptoms of HYPO-glycemia ( low blood sugar) thus is probably not a good idea in Insulin dependent (TYPE 1) diabetes. Hope this is helpful Dr Z
