It could be burisits: It depends where your are hurting, if you have pain over the lateral aspect of your hip then it is most likely bursitis. I suggest getting in injected a steroid. If it is more posteriorly in the middle of your buttocks it could be pirifformis syndrome and that could benefit from PT as well as an injection if it persistent. If the pain is in the groin then this could be from the hip joint.

Hip pain: Also, if the pain is somewhat more posterior such as as near your “butt cheek” you could have sciatica ie. a “pinched nerve” in your low back. True hip joint pain usually manifests itself as groin or anterior thigh pain. Pain worse with sitting especially riding in a car is often sciatica. Pain worse with activity especially climbing stairs then hip joint. Can’t lay on that hip then bursitis.

Consider biomechanic: It is not uncommon for lateral pain (bursitis) to present itself with a limb length difference. However I would agree with an injection because of the length of time the inflammation has been present. If problem returns consider a biomechanics cause.
