Wouldn't worry: A goal in life is to live happily without worrying about all the things that might kill you. Usually, the ill effects of the traces of harmful things in life cause less harm than the worrying causes. So, as they say, "Don't sweat the small stuff." California requires signs everywhere (really, on everything) that tell us everything causes cancer. Smoking is bad, but wouldn't worry about third hand.

Wouldn't think so: The smell of smoke is a reasonable sign of the quantity of off-gassed compounds present from that source. Quantity over time decides risk. You are exposed to trace amounts of such compounds everywhere, more so in urban than rural sites. Fresh autopsy lungs from a 80 yo farmer are often pristine while 30 yo city dwellers can be tinted black. I wouldn't loose sleep on the issue.
