What would cause firmness in tissues under skin in ankle to move upward into leg taking the pain with it after using a compression support?

Edema: Compression stockings, especially over 20 compression strength, can cause edema fluid to pool above the knee high level and form in the thigh. The cause of your prior ankle or foot edema could be vein weakness or fluid retention from hormones. Cardiac, kidney,liver causes or low blood albumin levels would be more serious issues. See your MD as needed.
