4 months!: That history makes a big difference in what you should do! RICE protocol only helps in new injuries! You should have your Dr look at the lump. If it is not mobile you may have a "bony callus" that has developed at the site of the injury (especially if there were microfractures when the ball hit the bone) - but it is unusual for the swelling to still be present. Even fractures heal in 6 wks!

Hematoma: Sounds like you had a contusion which formed a hematoma ( collection of blood) which is not rare in injuries along the shin bone. Often the hematoma gets absorbed but can leave behind an organized lump of scar tissue. If concerned see a doctor to confirm .

Get checked: After 4 months, its advisable to get evaluated and undergo a physical examination and possible imaging. This likely is to due to the trauma and could represent scar tissue, bone formation, etc, but it needs to be checked out.
