Depends on the test: Depending on which tests are done they can identify antibodies (IgM) that appear in the first month of an illness & disappear after 3-4m. There are also antibodies (IgG) that would persist, potentially for a lifetime. Depending on what type of test is done, a knowledgeable physician will know the difference.
