I helped carry something heavy -- since then i've had pain in my lower back almost all the time. lately, after a run, my lower back will swell a little and be tender to the touch around the area where the pain exists. today it is a little less manageable

Lumbar strain: sound like a muscular lumbar strain or sprain. Requires exam and until seen and if not allergic to NSAIDS I suggest using either Alve OR Advil PLUS BioFlex liniment. ??what do you mean by "less manageable"????
