A member asked:

My son has a hiatal hernia. he vomits after almost every meal. is surgical removal the best option?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Odd statement: In 40+yrs of pediatric practice I never had a kid with a hiatal hernia.I suppose some might label GE reflux as similar or the same but I would never use such a label without a true X-ray study showing a hernia, not just refluxing. Fundoplication, or the surgical fixation of the stomach entrance is a major procedure in a kid & seldom necessary.Age is not mentioned but this usually improves with age
