Yes; it is important: Cholesterol is the basic molecule that is used to make many other necessary hormones such as estradiol, dhea, cortisol, aldosterone and many others. Cholesterol is also a vital component in cell membranes. It is important stuff-- just too much of the wrong kind in the wrong place can be hazardous :o).
